Agreement to Fight Corruption Signed by All Seimas’ Parties (2006.10.26)
“The Government has met its promise and presented for signature the agreement on strengthening the fight against corruption to the political groups of parliamentary parties,” announced Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas after the heads or deputy heads of all nine Seimas’ political groups signed the agreement. The Prime Minister noted that it happened on the 100th day of the work of the Government and also on the Constitution Day.

Prime Minister Gets to Know Situation at Mažeikių nafta (2006.10.16)
On Friday, Prime Minister Kirkilas visited Mažeikių nafta and was given a detailed account of the consequences and elimination of the yesterday’s accident. Prime Minister Kirkilas stated that Mažeikių nafta had a clear and economically feasible strategy for responding to the accident. It should help to supply the domestic market with oil products and maintain the maximum efficiency of the plant operations during the repairs.

Government to Ensure Economic Growth, Promotion of Investment, Tax Reduction and Regional Development (2006.10.06)
The Government has approved the implementation measures of its programme for 2006- 2008. The 14th Government’s main objective is to ensure a continued economic growth, promote business and investment, prepare for euro adoption and joining the Schengen area.

Government Moves towards Lithuania’s Macroeconomic and Financial Stability (2006.10.05)
Following the information presented by the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Lithuania concerning Lithuania’s further macroeconomic and financial stability, the Government at its meeting of 4 October endorsed a policy position stating that Lithuania would seek to join the euro area at the soonest time possible.

Lithuania Will Become Donor When World Bank Classifies it as developed Country (2006.09.08)
The Government decided to have Lithuania’s status of the World Bank membership partly changed: from the status of a receiver of financial aid to that of a donor. Minister of Finance Zigmantas Balčytis is assigned a task of informing the World Bank on the intentions of Lithuania to discontinue borrowing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Lithuania – Well Visible on the NATO Map (2006.09.08)
Today Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas met with Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, NATO Secretary General, at NATO Headquarters. The meeting was also attended by Jonas Olekas, Minister of National Defence, and Audrius Navikas, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Government Sets Forth Six Major Strategic Goals (2006.09.07)
When drawing up State budgets for 2007-2009, major attention will be devoted to fostering general well-being. This major goal is reflected in the resolution “On strategic goals (priorities) of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania” approved at the sitting of the Government on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas received a congratulatory letter from the German Chancellor Angela Merkel regarding the 15th anniversary of the restoration of the diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Germany.
